I’ve had the discussion about what to tell my daughter about the word “slut.” I’ve talked about how slut-shaming is the “nuclear bomb of teenage insults” and how studies show the word slut is more of a finger wagging at defiance–i.e., you’re not acting how you’re “supposed to act”–instead of actually being about sexual activity.
But who is better to talk about slut-shaming than a teenager in the middle of it all?
Astrorice, via Feministe, is the 13-year-old that we all wish we could be. She’s the girl who explains slut-shaming and her surprise in the denigrative use of the term amongst her peers. She does it all with adorable fan fare and crazy intelligence. Can some one give this girl’s parents an award? Then send her around on a speaking tour.

i love this kid — she’s got such a great way of talking without making her topic an “everyone else does this, but I don’t and so they’re really bad” kinda way. that’s a tough thing to do but she does it really, really well. excellent. thanks for finding this super girl
